Bird Proofing &
Bird Deterrents
Pigeons, starlings, gulls, and sparrows cause significant structural damage, create health hazards, and undermine the appearance of commercial and domestic properties. Our bird proofing solutions are humane, discreet, and built to last.
The Real Cost of a Bird Problem
Bird fouling is highly acidic and accelerates the deterioration of roofing materials, stonework, metalwork, and paintwork. A single pigeon roost can deposit hundreds of kilograms of guano per year, causing thousands of pounds of structural damage if left unaddressed.
Beyond structural damage, bird droppings carry over 60 transmissible diseases including Salmonella, E.coli, Psittacosis, and Histoplasmosis — making bird infestations a serious health and safety concern for food businesses, healthcare facilities, and any premises with public footfall.
For commercial premises, a visible bird problem can also damage reputation and result in failed food hygiene inspections. Early intervention with professional bird proofing is always more cost-effective than remedial works later.
Structural Damage
Acidic guano erodes stone, concrete, metal, and roofing materials. Nesting material blocks gutters and drainage systems.
Health Hazards
Bird droppings carry Salmonella, E.coli, and Psittacosis. Dried guano becomes airborne and can be inhaled.
Legal Liability
Slippery fouling on walkways creates employer liability. Food businesses risk failed inspections and enforcement action.
Reputational Damage
Visible bird infestations on commercial premises deter customers and undermine brand image.
Bird Proofing Solutions
We specify the right system for each situation — there is no one-size-fits-all solution to bird control. Our surveys identify the species, roosting behaviour, and structural context before recommending the most effective and cost-efficient approach.
Anti-Perch Spikes
Stainless steel or polycarbonate spikes fitted to ledges, parapets, gutters, and signage. The most cost-effective solution for pigeons and gulls on flat surfaces.
Bird Netting
Heavy-duty UV-stabilised netting used to exclude birds from roof voids, loading bays, courtyards, and large open areas. Virtually invisible from ground level.
Post & Wire Systems
Tensioned stainless steel wire systems that prevent birds from landing on ledges, beams, and architectural features without altering the appearance of the building.
Electric Track Deterrents
Low-profile electrified track systems that deliver a mild deterrent shock, conditioning birds to avoid the treated area. Ideal for heritage buildings where spikes are unsuitable.
Bird Slope / Angle Systems
Smooth angled panels fitted to ledges and sills that prevent birds from gaining a foothold. Effective for sparrows and starlings in sheltered locations.
Optical & Acoustic Deterrents
Visual and sound deterrents used as part of an integrated management programme. Most effective when combined with physical exclusion systems.
Guano Clearance & Disinfection
Safe removal and disposal of accumulated bird fouling, followed by professional disinfection to eliminate pathogens. Carried out in full PPE to health and safety standards.
Nest Removal
Removal of active and inactive nests in compliance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We advise on timing and legal requirements before any nest removal work.
Roof Void Exclusion
Sealing of gaps in soffits, fascias, and roof lines to prevent starlings, sparrows, and pigeons from accessing roof voids for nesting.
Species We Manage
Feral Pigeons
The most common urban pest bird. Prolific breeders that quickly establish large roosts on buildings.
Herring Gulls
Increasingly common inland. Aggressive during nesting season and capable of significant structural damage.
Starlings
Form large murmurations and roost in roof voids in huge numbers, causing noise and fouling problems.
House Sparrows
Nest in roof voids and under solar panels. Protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act — proofing must be carried out outside nesting season.
Legal note: Most wild birds, their nests, and eggs are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. It is an offence to intentionally kill, injure, or take any wild bird, or to take, damage, or destroy an active nest. Our technicians are fully trained in the relevant legislation and will advise you on the correct and lawful approach for your situation.
